Vice President, Investments

Biography

Jerome F. Hartl, CMT is a Vice President, Investments at Wedbush Securities in the Traverse City office. Jerome has over 23 years of experience as a Financial Advisor, and as the son of a 46-year industry veteran, he became interested in the markets and economics at a young age. Previously, he served as a Senior Legislative Affairs Staffer in the 104th Congress and with the Clandestine Service, Directorate of Operations – Central Intelligence Agency. He and his business partner, Heather Kilbourne, created the Hartl Group in 2015.

Jerome and Heather produce custom-tailored portfolios that meet specifically defined needs and goals crafted around the risk tolerance level of each individual client. The team evaluates each clients’ complete financial picture and then constructs a unique portfolio designed to build wealth, while also withstanding the test of difficult markets.

From his previous experience in politics and intelligence, Jerome has the insight and ability to help his clients understand and react to the myriad of national and international developments that impact equity and income markets. Rigorous research and having an inquisitive attitude have also helped him uncover opportunities that have made a positive impact on portfolio performance for his clients.

The Hartl Group’s ideal client is serious about their financial goals, values informed advice, and asks good questions. The portfolio-building process is inherently collaborative, so having open and frequent communication is vital. The team is grateful to have the opportunity to work with clients of all shapes and sizes and is thrilled to have many client relationships that are multi-generational. They pride themselves on the part they play in helping build wealth for their clients, and as they say, “big things often have small beginnings!”

Born in Grosse Point, MI, Jerome and his family moved to Traverse City, where he still resides, when he was 8 years old. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts from Western Michigan University where he dual majored in Political Science and Communications. He was honored with the Chartered Market Technician (CMT) designation in 2006 and his CMT thesis, which examines the impact of capital gains taxation law on technical patterns of small cap stocks, was published in the CMT Association’s Journal of Technical Analysis. He is the proud parent of Henry, 10, and Audrey, 5, and when he is not working, he enjoys spending time with his children, outdoor activities, fly-fishing, and improving the wildlife habitat at his family’s cabin on the Sturgeon River.
