It was a fun-filled day on Wednesday, January 25 at Para Los Niños-Gratts Primary Center, located in the heart of Los Angeles. The Wedbush Securities team was on campus in partnership with Scholastic Book Fair, and each student, ranging from K-2nd, would get the chance to hand-select three books to take home and call their own. The excitement was palpable, not only from the students but most certainly from Wedbush colleagues, and the day kicked off as the first round of students made their way to the shiny, folding bookcases.
As more and more students rolled into the book fair, class after class, Wedbush colleagues engaged with each of the students, helping them decide on which three books would be the lucky winners to take home. The options were endless and ranged from classic favorites like Llama Llama Red Pajama and Junie B. Jones, to tales about unicorns, LEGO adventures and plenty of cat and dog stories, but the fun didn’t stop there. After decisions were made and back covers scanned, students got the chance to paste specially designed Wedbush stickers to the inside of their books, after writing their name on the designated line. It was a special touch, an added bit of interaction, and hopefully one that these students will go on to remember.
The day wouldn’t have been complete without story times and class readings. Wedbush colleagues signed up to read aloud to each of the classes, a task that was equally exciting but, in a way, nerve-wracking. After the dust was settled and each student made their way home with books in hand, it was time for the teachers to do some book shopping of their own. And just like that the festivities of the day came to a close. It was a successful book fair and one that our colleagues will remember for years to come.
This partnership was made possible through WedbushCares and Scholastic Book Fairs, whose core tenants center around youth development and early education. We are thankful to have this impactful organization as one of our 2023 core community partners and look forward to many more engaging events. This work also wouldn’t be possible without organizations like Par Los Niños, and the dedicated teams who support our local communities on a daily basis.
